Hook & Ladder Pub Duck Race Raises $2,800 for Surrey Memorial Hospital
Surrey, BC - On Sunday, April 30, 700 rubber ducks waited at the starting line for their chance to compete in the 21st Annual Hook & Ladder Pub Duck Race. The pint-sized contenders merrily bobbed their way down King Creek in Newton, with their human sponsors cheering from the sidelines.
Proceeds from the Duck Race and raffle sales raised $2,800 for Surrey Memorial Hospital - a new record for the Hook & Ladder Pubs annual event. The pub has being supporting the hospital through various fundraising activities for over 14 years, enabling the purchase of urgently needed medical equipment.
Surrey Memorial Hospital serves a regional population of more than 600,000 people, and is the second largest in British Columbia. Its emergency department is the busiest in British Columbia, treating almost 70,000 people every year, one third of them children.
