Surrey Students Donate to Children's Health Centre
Surrey, BC - Two groups of students from the Surrey School District have put their efforts into raising money for Surrey Memorial Hospital's Children's Health Centre.
13 students in grades six and seven at Henry Bose Elementary school are taking part in the "Pennies for Pals" fundraiser. Under the supervision of teacher Angie Tilton, the students are encouraging the school's community to donate their pennies. As part of this student-initiated fundraiser, jars are being left inside each of the school's classrooms. The "Pennies for Pals" team routinely empty the jars as they fill up and count the money.
Over at Jessie Lee Elementary school, teacher Hyekyung Lee is overseeing part of the school district's Challenge Program, in which young entrepreneurs from various schools create and sell their own products. The earnings also help the hospital's Children's Health Centre.
Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation helps fund the hospital's urgently-needed equipment each year. In addition, the Foundation has set a goal of $15-million for its Emergency Centre Campaign, which will be officially launched in the spring of 2007.
