April 19, 2007 $15-million Emergency Centre Campaign launches with momentum
Surrey, B.C. – Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has passed the halfway point of its $15-million goal, as it launches the public portion of a campaign to build a new Emergency Centre to replace the hospital’s current overcrowded E.R. The Foundation has received $8.7-million in pledges leading up to the start of the Emergency Centre Campaign. "The support so far has been exceptional," says Herb Dhaliwal, the Foundation’s Emergency Centre Campaign Honourary Chair. "We are closing in on our goal and want to offer the entire community an opportunity to ensure the new facility is state-of-the-art." Surrey Memorial Hospital’s current ER – the busiest in B.C. - was designed to handle about 44-thousand visits a year but has instead been seeing close to 70-thousand patients a year. The new Emergency Centre will include a separate children’s ER, a separate mental health and addictions area, an enhanced minor treatment unit, and an improved area for acute patients. "This project will enhance the ability of Surrey Memorial Hospital to provide fast, responsive care and offer comfortable space for patients and their families," says Chris Midmore, Chair of the Foundation’s Emergency Centre Campaign. To mark the launch of its $15-million campaign, the Foundation has released a series of artist renderings. "This is the first glimpse at what’s being planned for Surrey Memorial Hospital’s future," notes Jane Adams, President/CEO of Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation. "This is a hospital that has benefitted from community involvement right from its inception half a century ago, and this grassroots support continues as Surrey Memorial enters the next phase of its existence." The B.C. government has committed to funding the essentials of a replacement to Surrey Memorial Hospital’s current E.R. The Foundation’s $15-million campaign will ensure the new Emergency Centre is state-of-the-art. -30- For more information or interviews, contact: Jason Howe |
