Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation is turning fifteen
Surrey, B.C. – Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation is commemorating its 15th anniversary on May 12th, 2007.
It was on that day in 1992 that Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation was registered under the Society Act of British Columbia. Since then, the Foundation has raised more than $45 million to support the hospital with equipment, programs, and research.
"Businesses, community groups, and individual donors have all helped Surrey Memorial Hospital immensely over the years," notes Foundation President/CEO Jane Adams. "We see the results in improved comfort and quicker recovery times. We see it in the Children’s Health Centre that opened in 2001 with $10 million in donations. Soon we will also see the results with the opening of a new Emergency Centre."
Since 1992, the Foundation has received close to 83-thousand donations, including many from regular contributors. Hubert and Ruth Smith have been donating to the Foundation for more than a decade. "We give what we can," says Mr. Smith. "We’ve been treated so well at the hospital over the years."
On April 19th, 2007, the Foundation launched its $15 million Emergency Centre Campaign. The B.C. government has committed to funding the essentials of a replacement to Surrey Memorial Hospital’s current E.R. – the busiest in B.C. The Foundation’s $15-million campaign will ensure the new Emergency Centre is state-of-the-art. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2008.
