Surrey Memorial Hospital receives $150,000 donation from TD Bank Financial Group

Surrey, B.C. – Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Emergency Centre Campaign is the recipient of a $150,000 donation from TD Bank Financial Group.

TD’s donation will be used to provide training and professional development to nurses and other caregivers at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

“At TD, we feel we can make the greatest impact on the quality of healthcare in our communities by contributing to the ongoing education of healthcare providers,” said Jane Russell, Senior Vice President, Commercial Banking, TD Bank Financial Group. “Surrey Memorial Hospital has an incredibly busy emergency centre and plays an integral role in the health of the community. We’re proud to play a role in helping them continue to provide outstanding service.”

Surrey Memorial Hospital’s current ER – the busiest in B.C. - was originally designed to handle about 44,000 visits a year but has instead been seeing close to 70,000 patients a year.

The new Emergency Centre, at triple the size of the current facility, will include a separate children’s ER, as well as a separate mental health and addictions area, an enhanced minor treatment unit, and an improved area for acute patients.

The B.C. government has committed to funding the essentials of a replacement to Surrey Memorial Hospital’s current E.R. The Foundation’s $15-million campaign will ensure the new Emergency Centre is state-of-the-art.

TD Community Giving: Making a Difference Together

Children’s health, literacy and education, and the environment are the three primary areas of focus for TD’s community giving. The major flagship programs within these areas are: TD Children’s Hospital Fund, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, TD Canadian Children’s Book Week, TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership, and the TD Summer Reading Club.

In addition, through the support of customers and employees, TD is involved with a host of national, regional and local programs in support of diversity, arts and culture and other causes. In 2007, TD donated $33 million to charities and not-for-profit organizations across Canada.
