Tulips for Tomorrow: green thumbs help beautify SMH
Surrey, B.C. – More than a hundred volunteers have planted thousands of Princess Irene tulip bulbs on the grounds of Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Students from Harold Bishop Elementary and Queen Elizabeth Secondary, Surrey firefighters, Horizon Landscape Contractors, and others helped to beautify the hospital as part of Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Tulips for Tomorrow Campaign.
“What a great show of community spirit,” says Foundation Chair Jacy Wingson. “The effort will pay off in the spring, when the tulips bloom.”
More than 7,000 tulip bulbs have been planted around the hospital, in addition to the tens of thousands of tulips which will also be on display around Surrey this coming spring at businesses and in public locations like recreation centres and libraries.
“We’ve planted our bulbs at the hospital, but we still need your help,” says Foundation President/CEO Jane Adams. “If you are considering giving to a charity before the end of the year, I hope you will look at supporting Surrey Memorial Hospital.”
Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $45 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research.
The Foundation is currently involved in its largest fundraising effort to date - a campaign to raise $15 million for the new Emergency Centre that will replace the current ER.
